Her Story
Erica Downing grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia, and finished high school in Chesapeake. That's where her wake-up call came. In the middle of COVID, she was working two jobs and a side hustle, raising her son, and sitting two classes away from her MBA when her financial aid ran out. That's when it clicked: a degree alone won't save you, and you can't pour into anyone else until you've poured into yourself.
So she made a move. Tidewater Virginia was a place built for retirement, not for building wealth, so she closed her cleaning business and headed back to the D.C. area to turn decades of self-taught tech skills into formal training and credentials. The road wasn't smooth. She found herself unhoused, couch surfing while she kept pushing forward. She found programs that pay you to learn, earned her tech certifications, got published in Street Sense Media, and shared every resource she found on TikTok and YouTube. That's how Prosperity Pathways was born.
Today, her message is simple: increase your income first, then invest, save, and build.
